Obituary for Barbara Jane Schweitzer

Barbara Jane Schweitzer age 89 of Richland Center passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the Richland Hospital following a short illness.
She was born on July 4, 1928 in Belmont, Wisconsin the daughter of William and Lottie (Raine) Uren. Jane grew up on the family farm just outside Fennimore, Wisconsin with four brothers and sisters, she attended and graduated from Platteville State Teachers College and married Warner Schweitzer on Dec. 27, 1949. Jane was a loving sister, wife, mother, and grandmother whose family meant more to her than anything. She enjoyed several outdoor activities including gardening and landscaping her yard. Her interests included quilting and sewing, cooking, and ceramics, teaching ceramic classes in her home for several years. She worked with the US Census for over 40 years. But mostly, she worked tirelessly making a home for her family. When Warner retired, they traveled as much as was allowed, purchasing a small motorhome for many trips around the country. She very much enjoyed the outdoors - hunting, fishing, camping, the beach, and walking so much in younger days. Jane was never at a loss for stories of her early years on the farm, or proudly telling stories of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She was down-to-earth, cooking from scratch and healing many cuts and bruises with homespun remedies.
In later years, she gladly embraced technology and kept current with family on social media and email. Her homemade calendars were an annual favorite at Christmas. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Don and Doug, her husband Warner, and her son Eric of Clinton, MO. She is survived by a brother William (Kathleen) of Janesville, and a sister Phyllis (Bill) of Middleton. Five children, Heidi (Jan) Bitzer of Washburn, WI, Becky Hall of Jacksonville, FL, Matt (Becky) of Richland Center, WI, Aaron (Tina) of Viola, WI, and Jon (Nicole) of Black River Falls, WI, and her daughter-in-law, Carol (Eric), of Clinton, MO., and so many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Stafford Funeral Home in Richland Center with burial in the Prairie Cemetery in Fennimore, WI at 3:00 P.M. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the Stafford Funeral Home from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Online condolences available at www.staffordfuneralhomes.com.
