Obituary for Carol J. Schutz

Carol J. Schutz, age 87, of Plain, passed away after a long illness on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the Greenway Manor Nursing Home of Spring Green. She was born on October 29, 1930 in Big Hollow the daughter of Carl and Margaret (Carmody) Ellefson. She was married on November 11, 1950 to Harold “Harry” Schutz, and they shared a forever love that could not be separated. Carol was a teacher her entire working life and subbed until the age of 80, starting off in a 1-room schoolhouse for 5 years and moving on to the third grade at St. Luke’s Catholic School until her retirement 34 years later. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Plain. Carol loved to travel with her husband Harry, other family members and friends; golfing; tending her flowers; and everything holiday. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who always made her smile. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Schutz and Kaye (Dick) Frohmader; three grandchildren, Heather (Dave) Baker, Ashley (Jon) Ward, and Nicholas (Emily) Frohmader; seven great-grandchildren, Alex and Matthew Baker, Paige, Cayleigh and Austin Ward, Amber and Owen Frohmader; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her parents, Carl and Margaret Ellefson; one brother, Vinny Ellefson; and two sisters, Marian Lord and Alberta Bindl. A Mass in memory of Carol will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Plain. Father John Silva will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Catholic School Endowment Fund, Agrace Hospice or the American Legion Auxiliary Post 398. The family would like to thank the staff at Greenway Manor, Greenway Terrace and Agrace Hospice for their wonderful care as well as Peg and Sam Jonas, Jerry Lord and Marlene Hess for the many visits and continual support.
