Genevieve 'Jenny' Lord, Lawrence, Van Slyke
February 24, 2010

Genevieve “Jenny” Lord, Lawrence, Van Slyke age 91 of Madison and formerly of Lone Rock passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Sylvan Crossings Assisted Living. She was born on August 12, 1918 in Harpers Ferry, Iowa the daughter of John L. and Tillie M. (Dietelhoff) Lord. She graduated from the Lone Rock High School and the Richland County Normal School. Jenny taught at the Walty one room rural school in Iowa County before going to Everett, Washington in 1942 to be married to 1st Lt. Lee H. Lawrence of La Farge, WI. Lt. Lawrence was killed in action in 1943. The couple had one son, James Lee Lawrence. She then went back to teaching at the Penn Hollow School in Iowa County. Jenny and former schoolmate W. Miles Van Slyke were married at Loretto, WI in 1947. Jenny and Miles owned and operated a chicken hatchery in Lone Rock. After selling the hatchery they moved to Kenosha where Miles was employed at American Motors. After retirement they moved back to Lone Rock. Miles died in 1988 and Jenny moved to Madison in 1992 to be closer to her family. Survivors include 3 children, James Lawrence and Judy (Clark) Olson both of Madison, Gerald (Pamela) Van Slyke of Scottsdale, AZ, 9 grandchildren, Sam Lawrence, Lesli Olson Taschwer, Darren Olson and Natalie Olson Sanders all of Madison, Joshua Lawrence of L’Aquila, Italy, Bradley and Curtis Van Slyke and Alicia Van Slyke Hasemeyer of AZ and Dwayne Olson of SC., 11 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and caregivers. In addition to her husbands she was preceded in death by her parents, John and Tillie Lord, 9 siblings, Leo, Ed, Jim and Fredrick Lord, Agnes Maxwell, Leona Nachreiner, Lucille Bowers, Betty Ruppert and 2 infant brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 12:00 Noon at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lone Rock. Fr. Andre Panek will officiate with burial in the Spring Green Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. A special thanks to the Thornton, Dinkens and Zurbachen families and the caregivers at Sylvan Crossings at Chapel Valley. Jenny was a fun loving person with a wonderful & unique sense of humor that served her well through good times and bad. Randall G. Nelson
February 23, 2010

Randall G. Nelson age 58 of Spring Green passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at his residence following a long illness. He was born on November 11, 1951 in Rockford, IL the son of Walter and Marion (Robarge) Nelson. Randy graduated from Delavan-Darien High School in 1969 and served in the US Army with the 101st Airborne division in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971. He was married on July 30, 1977 to the former Karen Baryenbruch. He worked in construction all his life and loved working with his hands and seeing a project grow from the ground up. He worked as a project superintendent for Kraemer Brothers and was involved in many interesting projects throughout his career. Randy was grateful to all the many people who helped him in his fight with Glioblastoma Multiforme brain cancer, including Dr. Ellen Wermuth, Dr. Lozier, Dr. Ni, Dr. Arbaje, Dr. Ian Robins, Lori Hayes, Diana Trask, the GCRC at UW Hospital and the UW Brain Tumor support group family. Randy loved to travel and he and Karen traveled the Caribbean and explored the US. He was a scuba diver and was never happier than when his fins were wet. Survivors include: his wife Karen Nelson of Spring Green, 3 children, Scot (Kati) Nelson of Mobile, AL, Erin Nelson of Bloomington, MN and Megan Nelson of Spring Green, 4 grandchildren, Mitch, Sarah, Kennedy Jane and Kallie Suzanne Nelson, his mother, Marion Nelson of New Lisbon, 8 siblings, Delores (Joe) Nyre of Beloit, Judy (Richard) Regnier of Ohio, Jerry (Joan) Nelson and Richard Nelson both of Florida, Gloria (Dan) Wallace of Beloit, Patricia (Tom) Knoble of Milton, John (Val) Nelson of New Lisbon and Connie (Tim) Haines of Tomah, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan (Mary) Baryenbruch of Oregon, Jon (Florence) Baryenbruch of Fitchburg, Kurt (Jessie) Baryenbruch of Bolingbrook, Il and Kris (Tim) Johnson of Spring Green, Nelson and Baryenbruch aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his best friend, Mario (Lori) Van Caster and their children, Chris and Ben of Marshall, who were his cherished extended family and whose love and support never wavered. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Nelson, his mother and father-in-law, Mary Ann and Jack Baryenbruch and a nephew, Brian Madison. A prayer service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at the Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home in Spring Green. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.


 
 
Mathilda 'Tillie' Bindl
February 18, 2010

Mathilda “Tillie” Bindl, age 90 of Spring Green died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Greenway Manor with her family at her side. Tillie was born July 17, 1919 in rural Spring Green the daughter of Alois and Theresa (Roth) Reisinger. On September 3, 1940 she married Francis Joseph Bindl. Together they farmed for many years.

Survivors include five children, Francis (Irene) Bindl of Belvidere, IL, Jerry (Judy) Bindl of Rockford, IL, Joe (Bonnie) Bindl of Spring Green, Dan (Brenda) Bindl of Spring Green, Paul Bindl of Plain; 10 grandchildren, Scott, Bill, Audrey, Nick, Justin, Cody, Theresa, Jonathan, Michelle and Matthew; 7 great grandchildren; 5 sisters, Sister Mary Bede Reisinger of Racine, Catherine Maier of Cross Plains, Clara Pertzborn of Lodi, Ann Maier of Mazomanie, Helene (Venance) Dederich of Grayslake, IL; a brother, John (Kay) Reisinger of Bellevue, Nebraska; 5 sisters-in-law, Ann, Emily, Leona, Lucille and Maurita Reisinger; a special friend Florence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Francis, 2 daughters Virginia and Mary, 6 brothers Edward, Alois, Joe, Herman, Bill and Albert Reisinger; and a sister Marie Dischler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Spring Green with Fr. Bill Nolan officiating. Friends may call on Friday, February 26, 2010 from 5 – 8 PM at St. John’ Church and on Saturday from 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. Norma G. Bayer
February 15, 2010

Norma G. Bayer, age 87 of Plain, WI passed peacefully with family at her side on February 15, 2010 at Greenway Manor in Spring Green.

She was born December 5, 1922 in Decorah, IA, the daughter of Henry J. and Gena (Hanson) Ellefson. On November 20, 1941 she married Alfred Bayer.

Survivors include her loving husband Alfred, four children, Robert (Mary Lee) Bayer of Pittsburg, PA, Barbara (Steve) Torgoff of Paris, France, Carla (Rad Keener) Bayer of Milwaukee and Beverly (Alan) Darby of Los Angeles, CA, A special friend Kathleen Bayer of Greenfield, WI, six grandchildren, Jim (Mishell) Bayer of West Allis, WI, Nicole (Patrick) Tepe of Middleton, WI, Nicolas (Paulina Munoz) Torgoff of Paris, France, Teresa (Lionel Cardenas) Torgoff of Paris, France, Ryan Darby of Los Angeles, CA, and Alexander Darby of Los Angeles, and one great grandchild, Noah Bayer.

She was preceded in death by her parents Henry J. and Gena Ellefson, brother Melvin Ellefson and sisters, Ellen Mackesey and Gladys Haas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 5:00 PM at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Plain, WI. Burial will be held at a later date in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday at St. Luke’s Catholic Church from 4:00 PM until the time of services at 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to The Michael J. Roberta Barbara Zietlow age 73 of Fitchburg, WI passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 10, 2010. She was born on Jan. 16, 1937. She was married to Arthur Zietlow on June 25, 1955. She was preceded in death by her parents, James LeCount II and Helen LeCount and a brother, James LeCount III. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Zietlow, brothers, Robert (Marian) and David (Jane), and sister-in-law Judy, children, Rebecca and Douglas (Felice), four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Spring Green Community Church, 151 E. Bossard St, Spring Green, WI on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 at 12:30 P.M. Visitation will begin at 11:30 A.M. Arline M. Duren age 83 of Arena passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 5, 2010 at her residence. She was born on May 19, 1926 in Lone Rock the daughter of Ralph and Maude (Layton) Creasey. Arline was married on July 24, 1951 to Hilger Duren. Survivors include: 4 children, Richard Creasey of Mineral Point, Margie Olson of Arena, Margaret Witwen and Norman Klitzman of Oregon and James “Sonny” Duren of Arena, 7 grandchildren, April (Reggie) Shrader, Zachary Witwen, Anthony Olson & LuAnn Crist, Emily (Josh) Herritz, Josiah Creasey, Crickett Peterson, Samantha Witwen, 8 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Maude Creasey, her husband, Hilger Duren, 12 siblings, a daughter-in-law, Joan Creasey and an infant granddaughter, Jodi Ann. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Arena VFW. Pastor Glenn Andes will officiate with burial in the Arena Cemetery. Rita Ann Bauer
February 3, 2010

Rita Ann Bauer, 87 of Plain, WI passed away peacefully on February 3, 2010 at the Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital. She was born on February 2, 1923 to Frank and Amelia (Gruber) Feiner. Rita married Norbert Bauer on October 19, 1948 and had lived on the farm since their marriage. Norbert preceded her in death just 69 days ago on November 27, 2009. Rita was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and the NCCW.

She is survived by her loving children, Audrey (Jim) Blau, Eileen (Gary) Hasheider, Neil (Jean), Glen (Theresa) and Dale Bauer, grandchildren, Sheila (Eric) Williams, Sara (Troy) Anderson, Ray (Heather) Hasheider, Rachel(Brandon Laboets), Ross Hasheider, Corey, Stacey, Emily, Josh, Christopher and Lucas Bauer, great-granchdildren, Zach and Anne Williams, Blake and Ashley Anderson, Gavin, Owen and Carson Hasheider, brothers, Francis (Delores), Cyril (Lorraine), Valentine (Barb), Dick and Stanley Feiner, sister, Dorothy Brickl, Virginia Altenbach, Sr. Pauline Feiner and Gerry (Jim) Frank, sister-in-law Marie Bauer, many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She is further survived by a very special and dear friend, Marcy Stauffacher.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Norbert, grandson Todd Blau, her parents, a sister Caroline Guttman, brother Ralph Feiner and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Mom will be remembered for the many acts of kindness that she showed to all those around her. The work of her hands showed in all the quilts that she made and afghans that she crocheted and donated to the Ronald McDonald house. Mom loved her flowers and raised a garden each year. Mom, we will miss you so much, you have taught us so many things. All those memories will help to support us until we can all meet again. We love you.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 12 Noon at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Plain, WI. Fr. Bill Nolan will officiate with burial at a later date. Tell her that we love and Miss her and when she turns to smile –
Place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for awhile.

Remembering Mom is easy, we do it every day.

Bennie L. Joles age 38 of Arena passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 5, 1972 in Madison the son of Marvin J. and Suzanne (Campbell) Joles. He was married on June 18, 2007 to the former Charity Larsen. Survivors include: his wife Charity Joles of Arena, 10 children, Aaron Miller, Serenity and Montana Joles all of Arena, Erma Dudley, Gracie Lovell, Johnny and David Harrison, Destinie Larson, Alexxus and Trynnity Meadows all of Lone Rock, 3 siblings, Lisa (Francis) White of Arena, Marvin (Dina) Joles of Augusta, WI and Misty (Sean) Schramm of Arena, 8 grandchildren, Mickey, Patrick, Starlet, Donavyn, Gracie, Daphnee, Priscilla and Blake, his mother, Sue Joles of Arena, his maternal grandfather, Bennie Campbell of New Hampshire, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin J. Joles, a grandfather, Tynce Joles, both grandmothers, Fanchion Joles and Marion Campbell and a grandson, Joshua Lovell. Betty L. Conant
January 27, 2010

Betty L. Conant age 62 of Richland Center passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the Harvest Guest Home. She was born on March 31, 1947 in Henrietta Township, Richland County. Betty was one of nine children born to Ernest and Fern (Johnston) Gerber. She was married on August 5, 1967 to Norm Conant. They began their married life in Oconomowoc, WI where Betty held a teaching position. Later they resided in the Spring Green, Sextonville and Dodgeville areas. Their daughter Cindy was born in 1970. Betty worked for Lands’ End in Dodgeville for 20 years. She enjoyed nature walks on the bike trail with her two grandsons, Cody and Jesse. Survivors include her husband, Norm Conant of Richland Center, a daughter, Cindy (Jeff) Robinson of Boscobel, 2 grandsons, Cody and Jesse Robinson, 4 brothers, John (Inga) Gerber of Ontario, Roger (Kristy) Gerber of Heidelberg, Germany, David (Heidi) Gerber of Middleton, Paul Gerber of Westby, 3 sisters, Marie (Earl) Robinson of Tomah, Ruth (Ken) Rupp of La Farge, Mary (Rich) Houzner of Elroy, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Fern Gerber and an infant brother, Billy Gerber. Ingeborg 'Borgie' Williams Santo
January 26, 2010

Ingeborg “”Borgie”” Williams Santo age 97 of Richland Center passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Richland Hospital. She was born on September 14, 1912 in Stoughton, WI the daughter of Gunsten and Karen (Listol) Versland. Borgie was married on December 14, 1938 to John L. Williams, he preceded her in death on September 8, 1979, she then married Alex Santo on November 20, 1985 and he preceded her in death on July 8, 1993. She is survived by her 3 children, Helen (Robert) Deckert of Richland Center, John (Patti) Williams of Ramsey, MN and Mary (Roy) Allen of McAllen, TX, 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Louise Bintz, a granddaughter, Kimberly Martin, 2 sisters, Inga Dingman and Olga Long, and a brother, Gunsten Versland Jr. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 11:30 A.M. at the Stafford Funeral Home in Richland Center. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will take place on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Mission, TX at 1:00 P.M.


 
 
Freda Mary Madden
January 26, 2010

Freda Mary Madden, 96, of Spring Green, Wisconsin died of natural causes on January 26.

Freda spent most of her life in Freeport, Illinois, where she was born on December 16, 1913 to Clarence W. Geiger Sr. and Minnie M. Spitler. She was a graduate of Freeport High School. She was a 50-year member of the Second Presbyterian Church (now United Presbyterian), where she served as an ordained elder, deacon and a Sunday school teacher.

After raising two children, Mrs. Madden returned to the workplace and retired from the Crum and Foster Insurance Company in 1974.

Active in the community, Freda volunteered at the South Side School for Exceptional Children and at Freeport Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed being a homemaker, and was a Den Mother and Brownie Leader during the time her children were growing up.

Freda made many of the clothes that her children wore – sewing and crocheting were life-long pursuits. She was also a voracious reader. Mrs. Madden also enjoyed traveling, whether it was to other countries, or visiting her friends and many offspring.

Her husband of 63 years, Robert West Madden, and all of her five siblings preceded Mrs. Madden in death. Survivors include daughter Marianne (Maya) Kay Madden of Lone Rock, Wisconsin; son Robert West Madden Jr. of Stevensville, Maryland; grandsons Gerald Dryer and Andrew Dryer; granddaughters Linda C. Benjamin, Tiffany M. Snowden, Brooke J. McCloskey and Page R. Mills; great granddaughters Virginia L. Tjaden, Amber M. Benjamin, Nicole R. Benjamin, Delaney S. Snowden, Riley E. Snowden, Lily X. Dryer and Mei Frieda Dryer; great grandsons Robert M. Dillon; great-great grandson Dominic Tjaden; and good friend Rachel B. Madden.

Gloria A. Wolpert age 75 of Spring Green passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the U.W. Hospital following a long illness. She was born on October 2, 1934 in Boston, MA the daughter of Israel and Ida (Oxman) Yanoff. She was married on March 23, 1958 to Dr. Edward Wolpert. Gloria was a past member of the National Association of Social Workers. Survivors include: Her husband, Dr. Edward Wolpert of Spring Green, 3 sons, Seth (Robin) Wolpert and their daughter Isabelle of Stillwater, MN, Andrew (Victoria Pagan) Wolpert and their children, Abraham and Natalie of Gainesville, FL, Edward G. (Kirsten) Wolpert and their son Jacob of Scottsdale, AR, a sister, Diane Wilder of Seattle, WA, 3 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Israel and Ida Yanoff and a brother, Carl Yanoff. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 1:30 P.M. at the Christ Lutheran Church in Spring Green. Rev. Douglas Larson-Sell will officiate.

Hildagard O. Koch age 88 of Richland Center and formerly of Lamont, Iowa passed away on Monday, January 18, 2010 at Pine Valley Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was born on September 26, 1921 in Raeville, Nebraska. Hilda was one of eight children born to Frank and Mary (Krogman) Klein. She was married on September 26, 1939 to Alfred Koch. Together they farmed in Nebraska, then moved to Iowa where they farmed in the Manchester area and later bought a farm near Lamont where they raised 4 children until retiring and moved to Oelwein. Hilda was a past long time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lamont. Survivors include, 2 daughters, Carolyn (Joe) Greiner of Independence, Iowa and Donna Fleming of Volga, Iowa, 2 daughters-in-law, Karen Koch of Richland Center and Mary Koch of Muscoda, 20 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, a brother, Joe (Viola) Klein of Manchester, Iowa, a sister, Helen Kuncl of Prague, Nebraska, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by parents, Frank an Mary Klein, her husband, Alfred Koch, 2 sons, Robert and Walter Koch, a son-in-law, Joe Fleming, a granddaughter, 3 grandsons, 2 great grandchildren, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Alma M. Mueller age 94 of Montello and formerly of Spring Green passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Montello Care Center. She was born on June 20, 1915 in Plain the daughter of John B. and Mary K. (Brickl) Dischler. She was married on May 1, 1935 to Joseph J. Weiss and following his death she married Wilbert H. Mueller on July 23, 1973. Alma was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Spring Green. Survivors include: A son, Joseph (Judy) Weiss of Montello, 6 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 4 step children, Dorothy (Jack) Hogan, Alice (Jerry) Frederick, Virginia (Bill) Hackl and Hank Mueller, many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, a sister, Sister Juliana Dischler. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Dischler, her husbands, Joseph J. Weiss and Wilbert Mueller, a daughter, Virginia Weiss, a step daughter, Marian Feiner, 5 brothers and a sister. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Spring Green. Fr. Bill Nolan and Fr. Raymond Dischler will concelebrate with burial at the St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery in Plain in the spring. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the St. John’s Catholic Church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the Mass. The Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home, Spring Green is assisting the family with the arrangements.


 
 
Teresa D. Mueller

Teresa D. Mueller age 28 of Madison and formerly of Richland Center passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 4, 2010. She was born on August 10, 1981 in Richland Center the daughter of Timothy E. and Debra J. (Walsh) Mueller. Teresa graduated from the Richland Center High School in 2000 and enjoyed band and choir. She continued her education for 2 years at MATC as a surgical Tech and was employed at the UW Hospital for the past 6 years as a surgical tech in urology/organ transplants. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She loved the outdoors, nature, fishing, animals, traveling, having fun with her friends, spending time with her family and was always Daddy’s girl. Survivors include, her parents, Tim E. and Debra J. Mueller of Richland Center, her brother, Michael T. Mueller and Fiancee Stephanie Ebert of DeForest, maternal grandmother, Esther Walsh of Richland Center, many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Robert Mueller and JoAnn Webster and her maternal grandfather, Frank M. Walsh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richland Center. Fr. Emmanuel Famiyeh will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010 from 3:30 P.M.-7:30 P.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Visitation will also be held on Saturday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass at 11:00 A.M.


 
 

Thomas J. Drea
January 2, 2010

Thomas J. Drea age 86 of King, WI and formerly of Madison and Hillpoint, WI was called home on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home where he had been a resident since March of 1996. Tom was born on Loreto Ridge on October 3, 1923 the youngest of 8 children to Michael and Mary (Mears) Drea. Tom served his country in the US Navy during WWII along with three of his brothers who served in the Army. He was married to the former Eileen Aspel on November 3, 1966 and the two made their home in Madison for 30 years before Tom went to the Veteran’s Home.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Christine Drea and his 3 grandchildren, Benjamin, Keagan and Shannon Drea all of rural Plain, one brother, Larry Drea of Hillpoint, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his wife Eileen, his parents, 2 sisters, Kathryn Gelhaus and Margaret Lawry, 4 brothers, William, Joseph, James and Francis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Loreto Ridge. Fr. Larry Bowens will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home in Spring Green from 4:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice. Special thanks to all of Tom’s caregivers at the Wisconsin Veterans Home.
