Reflecting on mom’s own words…. “Lord, as the years advance, may I be able to sift out the heartaches and allow them to be buried under the shifting sands of time or carried aloft to be dispersed by the winds and lost in space forever, so that I may have room to cherish and nurture the precious happy times to comfort me in my fading years. Although these heartaches have darkened my days, their cross will, hopefully, produce the crown, and the door will be opened to eternal life.”
Greeted by her husband, Ed, and children Phyllis, Peggy, Joyce, Ken, Paul, and Terry, Alma M. (Ring) Liegel, 90, June 06, 1921 to September 26, 2011, left the cares of this world and her remaining children, Bill (Judy Radl) Liegel of Priairie du Sac, Rita (Jim) Gundry of Fall Creek, Larry (Gail) Liegel of Eau Claire, Pat (Dave) Blakeslee of Maribel, Ed (Mary Jayne) Liegel of Loganville, Lois (Bernard) O’ Donnell of Sauk City, Mark (Corinne) Liegel of Eau Claire, Roger (Rita) Liegel of Loganville, Les (Linda) Liegel of Madison and Rodney Liegel of Loganville, daughters-in-law Sue Liegel of Madison and Shelley Liegel of Verona, son-in-law, Wayne (Diane) Dearborn of Yuma, AZ, 34 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and soon- to-be 1 great grandchild, sisters Gathy Bowar of Owatonna, MN and Lory (Bill) Terbilcox of Danbury, brother Felix (Millie) Ring of Plain, sisters-in-law Viola Paulus of Plain, and Delores Liegel of Spring Green, brothers-in-law, Allie Alt of Spring Green, George (Marcie) Liegel of Plain and Vern (Bernie) Liegel of Spring Green. Alma is also predeceased by her parents, William and Margaret Ring, her sisters Philomena Ring, Bertha Rieder, Martha Bindl; her father and mother-in-law, George and Ann Liegel, and ten sisters/ brothers-in-law. Born to William and Margaret (Nachreiner) Ring, mom’s values were firmly planted during her early years on her beloved Loreto Ridge. Married to Edward G. Liegel on November 08, 1939, they spent 45 years farming, retiring to Plain in 1985. We will feel her loss drift through the winds of White Mound Settlement area and her farm on Valley View Rd., Loganville, which she fondly looked over each day.
An avid vegetable and flower gardener, mom also tended to large laying flocks and meat chickens. If it grew in the ground, on a tree or a bush, mom canned, pickled or froze it. Mom was a great cook—her meats, breads, pies and cookies are legendary.
Alma’s family is grateful for the loving care she received by the staff and caregivers of Greenway Manor Nursing Home, Spring Green and Dr. Jeff Collins, Plain.
Strong faith and conviction in both the spiritual and natural worlds were part of her daily life. You can rest now, mom, your work here is finished. Thanks for all you taught us, for inspiring us with your writings, and for sharing your faith and life with us.
