Joseph “Joe” H. Joyce, age 79, of Richland Center passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2010, at the Richland Hospital after a courageous battle with myelodysplastic syndrome. He was surrounded by his family. He was born on July 10, 1931, in Rockbridge Township the son of Harry and Erma (Kitson) Joyce. He was married on April 30, 1956, to the former Irene Kinney. Joe lived his life raising his family, farming, and working with cattle on the third generation family farm that he loved on Buck Creek. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Rockbridge Zoning Commission and served 12 years as a board member for the Richland School District. Survivors include: his wife, Irene Joyce of Richland Center; 5 daughters, Jeanne Joyce of Spring Creek, NV; Maureen (Andy) Spitzley of Lansing, MI; Rose (Ross) Joyce-Turner of Livingston Manor, NY; Susanne (Larry) Hamilton of Blue River, WI and Michelle (Rick) Smith of DeKalb, IL; 5 grandchildren, Joseph and Ryan Joyce-Turner; Keegan, Madeline and Nathan Smith; 3 step- grandchildren, Meghan Turner, Lara Wetter and Cory Hamilton; 3 special boys, Brandon Brewer, Ashland and Greg Good. 8 siblings, Marie Wanless of Reedsburg; Tom (Marge) Joyce of Sextonville; Kathryn Sponaugle of Madison; Lorraine (Donald) Brazones of Byron Center, MI; Louise (Don) Foster of Madison; Emmett Joyce of Richland Center; Patrick (Karen) Joyce of Cambridge, WI and Joan (Tom) Sinniger of LaCrosse, many other brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Erma Joyce, a brother, James and a sister, Eleanor Jambois. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richland Center. Fr. Emmanuel Famiyeh and Fr. Michael Gorman will concelebrate with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, from 4:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church where a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7:45 P.M. Visitation will also be held on Thursday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Richland Hospital Foundation. Online condolences are available at www.staffordfuneralhomes.com.
