Information

Lana Peters
Name:
Lana Peters
Date of Death:
Nov 22, 2011

Lana Peters age 85 of Richland Center passed away from cancer at Pine Valley Nursing Home on Tuesday morning, November 22nd, 2011. She was born Svetlana Alliluyeva on February 28, 1926 in Moscow, Russia, the youngest child and only daughter of Josef Yugashvili Stalin and Nadia Alliluyeva. Lana was an acclaimed author, lecturer and translator. An avid traveler (her close friends called her "Nomad") with a passion for world cultures, she was fluent in four languages but could order dinner in a dozen other vernaculars. These life-long experiences blossomed later into the colorful stories and opinions we all loved her for, as told in her beautiful prose over luncheons with friends and in her letters, which she was committed to writing at least three a day. Lana held a huge place in her heart for animals, in particular, cats. She was preceded in death by her parents, her eldest son Josef and her beloved calico cat, Christa. Survived by two daughters, Katia Jdanova of Russian Far East and Chrese Evans (Peters) of the US; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren in Russia. She was the devoted mother and Best Friend to her second daughter Chrese, the bond of which will forever be missed and never replaced. A Memorial Service to be held at a future date and  details will be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Richland County Friends Of Animals.
