Lawrence M. “Larry” Drea age 93 passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at his residence. He was born on July 7, 1917 in Loreto Ridge the son of Michael and Mary (Mears) Drea. Larry was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Plain American Legion Post #398, long time member of the Sauk County Tavern League and held the longest continuously licensed tavern in the state of Wisconsin known as Drea’s Bar for the past 63 years. Larry was the Loreto Ridge local historian. His incredible memory spanned the generations and folks would ‘pick his brain’ to learn the who, what, why and whens of “back in the day”. He was also the premier storyteller of the Ridge. He was proud of his military service, being 100% Irish and loved his beef farm. Survivors include many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary Drea, 2 sisters, Kathryn Gelhaus and Margaret Lawry, 5 brothers, William, Joseph, James, Francis and Thomas Drea, 2 nieces, Mary Ellen Gelhaus, Jeannie Gelhaus and 3 nephews, Gerald Gelhaus, Joe Drea and Kevin Drea. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Loreto Ridge. Fr. Larry Bowens will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 20, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church from 4:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M., with a Rosary beginning at 3:45 P.M and on Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of Mass.
