Shirley Ann Weber
April 21, 2010

Shirley Ann (Williams) Weber, age 82, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 21, 2010 at Heritage Manor in Elroy.

Shirley was born December 6, 1927 to Pastor Roy and Phyllis (Fuller) Williams in Sugar Grove, Wisconsin. She married Hugh Weber in 1947. They farmed on Dach Ridge for many years where they raised four children.

Shirley is survived by her former husband, Hugh of Viroqua, daughters, Linda Riley(Kevin) Wilkins of Spring Green, WI, Marianne (Bob) Walker of Tomah, WI, Celia (Bob Senters) Weber of Glenmoore, PA, son, Paul (Kathy) of Palmer, AK., grandchildren, Jeremy (Brooke) Riley, Jeffrey (Amanda Miller) Riley, Bobby Jo (Barry) Taylor, Sara (Elliot) Blackdeer, Jacob Weber Senters, Rebecca (Patrick Hellen) Weber, Aaron Weber, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by two brothers, Gerald (Laura) and Paul (Pat) Williams, and sister-in-law Linda Williams Dufty.

She was preceded in death by her parents, father and mother-in-law, Harold and Nellie Weber, one brother, Keith, a sister Ruth Strahm, and beloved grand-daughter Hannah Grace Weber.

Dennis F. Cummings
April 17, 2010

Dennis F. Cummings, age 56, of Mazomanie, died Saturday, April 17, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. He was born June 11, 1953 in Janesville, Wisconsin the son of Cyril P. & Jane (Williams) Cummings. Dennis worked 28 years at McFarlane’s as a steel salesman.

Survivors include 3 sons, Jeff (Tracey) Cummings of Mineral Point, Eric Cummings of Mazomanie, Dennis “Eddie” Cummings of Mazomanie; a grandson, Zach Cummings of Mineral Point; 3 sisters, Linda (Chris) Quellhorst of Tripoli, WI., Kathy Lund of Watertown, Peggy O’Neil of Beloit; 2 brothers, Raymond Cummings of Beloit, Greg O’Neil of Beloit; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Cyril Cummings and Jane O’Neil; and a brother-in-law Thomas Lund.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home in Spring Green. Pastor Craig Peach will officiate with Burial in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM. Richard Edward Calnin
April 8, 2010

Richard Edward Calnin, age 86, of Richland Center, Wisconsin passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Pine Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.

Richard Calnin was born on September 7, 1923 in Appleton, Wisconsin to Rose and Frank Calnin. After working on the family farm, he moved away from home to complete a degree in philosophy at Jordan College in Menominee, MI and St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee, WI. In 1948, he joined the military as an intelligence officer serving in Germany from 1949-1953. He met his wife, Mechtild, by the holy water fountain at church in Nurnberg, Germany. They married on January 8, 1953 and returned to Wisconsin to teach languages at St. Norbert College in DePere and raise their family of four sons. During his years at St. Norbert College, Richard built two beautiful homes for his growing family, erected several windmills for energy production, and in 1972 traveled to Arequipa, Peru with his family for a nine-month study tour. After retiring from St. Norbert College in 1981, he and his wife purchased an eighty-acre farm in Richland Center, WI where they converted the barn into a home. During his time in Richland Center, he taught Spanish at UW Richland and became an artist, using wood and recycled metal to create furniture, fountains and unique objects for homes and gardens. He has shown his work in galleries and art fairs throughout the state.

Richard Calnin is survived by his wife, Mechtild Calnin, four sons, Wolfgang Calnin and his wife Susan of South Milwaukee, WI, Norbert Calnin and his wife Susan of Richland Center, WI, Roland Calnin and his wife Regina of Holland, MI, and Tim Calnin and his wife Katherine of Green Bay, WI, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Alice Stingle of Appleton, WI and Julia Wendt of Hortonville, WI, his brother, Earl Calnin, and wife Lorraine of Hilbert, WI, and his sister-in-law, Pat Baum of Hortonville, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Frank Calnin, of Black Creek, WI and his brother, Frank Calnin, of Hortonville, WI.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richland Center, WI or Pine Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Richland Center, WI.

A memorial mass for Richard Calnin will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 16, 2010 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Richland Center, WI. Father Emmanuel Famiyeh will celebrate the mass, and Stafford Funeral Home is assisting the family. The church will open at 10:00 AM for friends and family to visit. A luncheon will be served after the memorial mass.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pine Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center and the staff at Richland Hospital for their excellent care during the past nine months. Special gratitude is extended to Dr. Robert Smith for his support throughout the years of Richard’s illness.

 
 
Barbara J. Troxel
April 6, 2010

Barbara J. Troxel, age 78, Muscoda, died April 6, 2010 at Meriter Hospital in Madison after a short illness. She was born March 31, 1932 in Gays Mills, WI, to Winston D. & Myrtle (Rayner) Gander. After Winston died, Myrtle married Carroll Craig in 1940. In 1954 Barbara moved to Madison and in 1955 married Merle F. Thomas at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They had four children Susan, Garry, Ronald and Robert. After Merle died, she married Kenneth L. Troxel in
1978. He preceded her in death in 1993. Barbara was well known throughout the community. She served as a member of the of the Muscoda Rescue Squad for 30 years and the Muscoda Library Board for 25 years. She was a Master Gardener and after retiring from Land’s End, she devoted much of her time to the garden she shared with her sister.

Barbara is survived by her children, Susan (Michael) Maskaleris, of Waldorf, MD, Garry Thomas of Muscoda, WI; Ronald Thomas of Richland Center, WI and Robert(Angi) Thomas of Holmen, WI; grandchildren Whitney, Caleb, and Ethan Thomas of Holmen, WI, Alex and Allison Maskaleris of Waldorf, MD; Sister, Eileen Gander of Muscoda, WI; Sister-in-law, Ina (Ken) Sletten of Madison, WI, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, and both husbands.

Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Muscoda Rescue Squad or Muscoda Library. The Stafford Funeral Home in Richland Center is assisting the family with arrangements. .

 
 
Christina E. Nee
April 5, 2010

Christina E. Nee age 89 of Spring Green passed away on Monday, April 5, 2010 at the Greenway Manor Nursing Home in Spring Green. She was born in Plain on November 23, 1920 the daughter of Michael and Mathilda (Reaser) Ring. She entered Spring Green public schools in 1926. She graduated in 1938 from Spring Green High School. After graduation she worked for Florence Schoenmann who roomed and boarded three school teachers. The Schoenmann house was where the Spring Green Pharmacy is now. From 1938 to 1941 she waitressed for Popes Café, which was a famous restaurant in the 1950’s and was located where Denny’s Barber Shop now stands. From 1941 to 1943 she worked at Badger Ordinance Plant near Baraboo. On August 23 1943 she married Francis “Swede” Nee. In December 1943 she took a job at Nina’s Department Store that still is in Spring Green. She worked there until April of 1955. From 1956 to 1970 Chris was a part-time employee of the State Bank of Spring Green and part-time bookkeeper for Owen King Lumber Company from 1956 to 1963. From 1970 until 1978 she was a part-time employee of the Bank of Spring Green and from 1978 until retirement on January 1, 1986 she was a full-time employee of the Bank of Spring Green. Swede and Chris had traveled a lot during their marriage and planned on doing more after her retirement. She lost the love of her life on September 25, 1986. Chris traveled with relatives and friends for the next 20 years and was able to see many beautiful areas of the world. Chris was a great lover of flowers and always had a beautiful flower garden at her house. She could take any sad looking violet and in a matter of months turn it into a flowering plant. She also loved dogs and playing cards. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, Darlene Larson of Deerfield, Kay Schneider of Sparta, Ramona Ampe of Tacoma, WA., Janet Koch of Madison, James Koch of Cottage Grove, Patricia Brown of Deerfield, Cathy Anderson Hill, Mary Grieb and Margaret Hutto all of Visalia, CA., Owen Nee of Rye, NY., John Nee of Greensboro, NC., along with their families. She is also survived by a special friend, Marsha Grant and her family of Spring Green. Chris was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Mathilda Ring, her husband, Swede, a sister, Verena Koch and a nephew, Richard Koch. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Spring Green. Fr. Bill Nolan will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Catholic School. Mary K. Storms
March 31, 2010

Mary K. ‘Mema’ Storms age 53 of Richland Center passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the Richland Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer with her husband, David at her side. She was born on November 16, 1956 in Richland County the daughter of Emmett and Ann (Farrell) Collins. Mary was married on January 21, 1978 to David M. Storms. She loved gardening, mowing her lawn, working at the Richland County Courthouse with her friends and co-workers, spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include, her husband, David Storms of Richland Center, 2 daughters, Elizabeth (Tom) Schauer of Richland Center and Erin Storms and Jon Elliott of Avoca, 4 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 3 brothers, John (Holly) Collins, Jim (Terri) Collins and Pat Collins all of Richland Center, 2 sisters, Joan (Gerald) Brown of Richland Center and Frances (Calvin) Wilkinson of Mount Horeb, 2 aunts, Kathryn Ryan of Richland Center, Frances Collins of Savoy, Texas, 2 uncles, John (Isabel) Farrell of New Berlin, Kenneth Schaefer of Brookfield, Wisconsin many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Ann Collins and a brother, Michael Collins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richland Center at 11:00 A.M. Fr. Emmanuel Famiyeh will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 5, 2010 at the Stafford Funeral Home in Richland Center from 5:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M.

 
 

Victor A. Kraemer
March 30, 2010

Victor A. Kraemer, age 93, passed away on March 30, 2010 at his home. He was born on August 12, 1916 in Plain to Edward and Gisela (Frank) Kraemer. Victor graduated from St. Luke High School in 1935 and attended Marquette University in Milwaukee until joining his father and brothers in the construction firm, Edward Kraemer & Sons, Inc. in 1938. Victor served in the U.S. Army during WWII and on August 19, 1944 married his beloved wife, Jacquell Kosinski, in Chicago, Illinois. After the war he rejoined Edward Kraemer & Sons, Inc., eventually becoming a co-owner, until his retirement in 1986. He was instrumental in founding the Plain Lions Club and was a member of the American Legion Post 398, VFW Post 7694, past president of the Wisconsin Road Builders Assn., a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a life-long member of St. Luke Catholic Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jacquell, and eight children; Sharon (Edmund) Bettinger and William (Jennifer) of Plain, Lynnette (Robert ) Zauner of Burnsville, MN, Janis (Richard) Marino of Plain, Victoria (Alan) Hillmann of Apple Valley, MN, John (Betty) of Paradise Valley, AZ, James (Diane) of Madison and Joseph (Polly) of Plain; twenty-one grandchildren : Jane (Jeffrey) Brewer, John ( Pamela) Bettinger, Sarah and Douglas Bettinger, Nicholas and William “Alex” Kraemer, Mollie, Benjamin and Andrew Zauner, Megan (Jared) Lee, Matthew (Beth) Marino, Joseph, Elizabeth and Rebecca Hillmann, Michael, Kaitlin and Gregory Kraemer, Christopher and Sarah Kraemer, Courtney and Jackson Kraemer, ten great-grandchildren; a brother Duane (Gwendolyn) Kraemer of Plain and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Gisela; his in-laws Stanley and Lillian Kosinski; his brothers Rudolph (Marion) and Frederick (Margaret), his sister Iris (Richard) Umhoefer, and sisters-in-law Lorraine (Thomas) Herion and Dorothy Kosinski.

A con-celebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at 1:00 PM at St. Luke Catholic Church in Plain with a private family burial in the church cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Plain American Legion Post #398. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the church from 10AM – 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Victor may be made to the Friends of the Kraemer Library or St. Luke Catholic Church.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Jeffrey Collins, Dad’s caregiver, Baterdene “Bagi” Erdenesambuu, Fr. Michael Resop, Fr. William Nolan, Sandra Meise and the staff of Home Health United Hospice.

Dad was a good and honorable man, kind and generous, a man of great faith who had a tremendous love of family. That love and a life well-lived are his legacy to all of us. We will miss him always and hold him forever in our hearts.

William 'Bill' Hunt
March 27, 2010

Dr. William (Bill) Hunt, Ph.D was born January 30, 1931 in Pontiac, Michigan. Husband to Mary Friedel-Hunt, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, clinical psychologist, poet, lover of classical music, wood worker, collector of antique clocks and cars and a former minister, this kind and gentle man was loved by all and struggled the ravages of Alzheimer dementia for the past four years without complaints.
Bill received his Divinity degree at Conservative Baptist Theological Seminary in Denver, CO and pastored churches in New York State where he also obtained his Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology at Queen’s College of City University of New York. Bill and his former wife, E Virginia Hunt later moved to Chicago where Bill practiced at North Park Clinic, obtained his PhD in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology and opened a clinic in Northbrook, Illinois where he was also on the staff of three hospitals. In 1982 the couple retired to Galena, Il where they ran a Bed and Breakfast and a Gourmet Cheese and Wine Shop.
When Bill and his wife, Mary married in 1986 they moved to 67 acres of woods and meadows outside of Barneveld WI, opened a clinic in Madison and saw clients until 1996 when they ventured to the Rocky Mountain village of Ouray, CO, built a home, practiced for four years and hiked in the mountains. Itching to travel they purchased a motor home and spent the next two years on the roads of North America before returning to Wisconsin in 2002 ultimately settling in Spring Green where together they began the publication, Voice of the River Valley.
After serving 9 years as a minister and over 40 years of clinical practice Bill was diagnosed with Alzheimer dementia in 2006 and experienced a rapid decline.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Friedel-Hunt (Spring Green, WI), daughters Nancy Hunt (Dan) Pierce of Green Bay, WI and Carol Moore of Lewes, DE, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two nephews, sister-in-law Nancy Lou Hunt of Birmingham, MI, his favorite cousins Bruce (Ponnie) Reh of Lakeland, FL and many loving friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Christ Lutheran Church in Spring Green on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 1:30pm. Fr. James Friedel, OSA will officiate and will be assisted by Rev. Douglas Larson-Sell. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 12:30 P.M. until the time of service. Burial will take place at 3:30pm at the Wyoming Valley Cemetery following a social hour at the church.

Harland J. Ruhland
March 20, 2010

Harland Joseph Ruhland, age 72 of Loganville, died Saturday, March 20, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. He was born October 27, 1937 in Sauk County the son of Alvin & Maude (Blakeslee) Ruhland. On January 5, 1963 he married Alice Jane Kotten in Norwalk, Wisconsin.


Survivors include: his wife Alice Ruhland of Loganville; 4 children, Eric (friend Maureen Kramer) Ruhland of Loganville, Ty (Sue) Ruhland of Plain, Hal (Luann) of Dodgeville, Holly (Brian) Towne of Brier, Washington; 6 grandchildren, Max & Grace Ruhland, Logan & Anna Ruhland, Mason & Gabriel Towne; 3 step grandchildren, Jeremy & Jamie Wright, Joey Gorman; a step great grandchild, Kierra Atkinson; 2 sisters, Linda (Edward) Radl of Baraboo, Diane (Chris) Gant of Oregon; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother Ronald Francis Ruhland.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at 4:00 PM at St. Lukes Catholic Church in Plain, Wisconsin. Fr. Larry Bowens will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday at church from 1:00 PM until the time of services at 4:00 PM.

March 17, 2010

Marlene J. Pauls age 74 of Richland Center passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 following a brief illness. She was born on October 14, 1935 in Richland County the daughter of David and Iva (Felton) Adams. Marlene was married in September of 1961 to Dallas Pauls. She was a member of the Park Street Christian Church, the VFW Auxiliary and volunteered at the Richland Hospital coffee shop and the voting polls. Survivors include a son, Tim (Rhonda) Pauls of Edgerton, WI, 2 grandchildren, Charity (Chris) Endres and Brittany Pauls both of Janesville, 4 great grandchildren, Kya, Brody and Chase Endres and Deonica Pauls, 4 siblings, Harry (Bev) Adams of Richland Center, John (Darlene) Adams of Janesville, Betty (Eugene) Purington of MaChesney Park, IL and Marion (Barb) Adams of Richland Center, a sister-in-law, Patsy Adams of Viroqua, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Iva Adams, her husband Dallas Pauls in 2000, a brother, Max Adams and an infant brother, Kenneth Adams. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Stafford Funeral Home in Richland Center from 10:00 A.M.-12:30 P.M. Graveside services will be held on Saturday at the Richland Center Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Randy Sanders officiating.
